The kind of people who seem to spend more time showing off their rosettes than caring for their horses... dont you hate them?
its a real pet peev of mine. its bad enough when horses are treated as products of industry by businesses but it really confuses and infuriates me when they're treated like furniture by people keeping them for recreation. if you're selling rabbits its perfectly acceptable to advertise them as "free to a good home" so why not horses? i think it's so unhealthy to put prices on their heads, trading them when you get bored. Its a crime to see young girls being given these animals by their rich parents, riding for a week then getting bored. horses aren't just a hobby, theyre a way of life
so many people seem to use their horses to impress people, which is totally not the point. to illustrate, I was out hacking a while ago with a girl i'd never met on a showing Dales mare. She seemed so proud of the fact that her horse was a bucker that she's "not the the feint hearted" and even the judges are scared of her. That's not a good thing! so often the horses happiness comes second and i really hate it... if you cant put your horse before your own ego, as far as i'm concerned you shouldnt have any
anyone agree?

I have to admit one time or another in my life I have talked up my horses a bit to much, but not normally do I do so.

i guess theres nothing wrong with pride, but talking them up because they mean so much to you is very different to talking them up because you want to make people jelouse

Oh and people, Zippo has been missing for 72 hours, if you live in the Edgerton/Chauvin/Wainwright area, please get ahold of me if you see him. Im despertly looking for him. Psh posh and no, I dont want to make people jealous.. But im just saying.. People who DONT have money take what they have happily. My friends dad is a millionare and she walked into her house and said I want a new pony.. The next day. She had a white 30,000 dollar stud in her lot.

I definately agree. Once I was at a show with my friend and we almost cried because there was this girl riding what would be an awesome hunt horse, but she had the reins super tight and the horse's head was up really high. It looked like it was in pain and we were really upset. I also hate it (though it sorta makes me laugh) that most of the time english riders think of western riders as just a bunch of yah-hoos, and western riders think of english riders as snobs. So if I ride english AND western... what am I?

lol yea, doing both makes you versitile! i'd love to have a go at western, but no where around here does western lessons.
its horrible seeing how some people treat their showing animals, whips cracking everywhere and screaming across the arenas... as if the horses deserve the abuse for not being pretty enough

horses shouldnt be used as anger management. if these people spent as much money on happy pills as they do on their horses things would be far less harsh

Yes, I agree Lewis. My trainer is always telling me (and I do a good job of this if I do say so myself) that you shouldn't keep nagging a horse. If they don't do what you want, punish them a bit and then go back to gentle touches. Horses respect people who are gentle more than people who are harsh.

One of Newton's laws states that all stables must have a mean girl/boy.
There is only one thing to do: Charm their horses!
