we all have things we hate about ourselves... on a bad day, for me, thats everything physical and mental! on a good day, i actually quite like myself now (which is more than could be said a few years ago lol). its not about having no faults, or even loving yourself in spite of them, but loving yourself because of them.
The media attention to the "obesity epidemic" really winds me up, because i'm not exactly skinny and i dont want people walking past me in the street thinking "she's the reason our country is falling apart!". I know there are health implications involved, but sometimes i think its more unhealthy to have too much attention on our physical bodies. Do we really want the next generation to grow up thinking if theyre overweight theyre not acceptable in society?
Just wondered what your thoughts are

My BFF's mom and I wonder if my BFF is anorexic, I don't want her to be the freak that everyone stares at because of her weight. It works both ways, fat and skinny. I'm conserned for her.

I am half on half with you there, I do not promote the "body Image" that the magazine and televisions ad's promote most of the time. BUT, with these ad's and other things just open some peoples minds to obesity for their younger children. The word "fat" is thrown around way to often these days. I am not "fat" I weigh 65kgs but what percentage of that is muscle? Muscle weighs more the fat, which a lot of people can not get that through the tiny little thick skulls. The only good thing about today's "body image" is that it does kick some over weight people up off of their arses and gets them to loose some what so they don't die of oh lets say a heart attack. But then these promotions also pin point the healthy people, who are just heavier for the muscle percentage, and that is where everything just goes out of whack.

hmm.
i appreciate your point about muscle, which is why BMIs are such a stupid idea. they take into accound only your height and weight so according to them, 90% of rugby players are clinically obese which is just ridiculous

lol when in doubt - SMILIES!!!!
just rereading youre earlier post, you say it might inspire people to loose weight, but maybe people are more inclined to stay reclusive at home when they think everyone will be judging them on their weight. Its so much easier to go out jogging for example, when you're already fit than when you're not. Many cases of over-eating are brought about by feelings of frustration, stress and inadequacy

I know this sound terrible but, if the confine themselves to their house then they wont have children that may or may not take after their habits. Thus saving our country one bit at a time. For the record I don't follow my previous statement at all just fact.

up until about two years-two and a half years ago i was obese, and i've also suffered the effects of what could have become anorexia, along with my best friend being seriously anorexic,so this is a passionate area of mine
it really pisses me off when i see stupid kids like 'omg might skip lunch'. anorexia has destroyed my friends life. her mum breaks down at work, her father collapses from the stress, and her ten-year-old sister thinks she's fat. she might be unable to have children, all because of 'body image'. it's stupid. she puts the slightest bit of weight she thinks she's elephantine. she's done it all, bulimia to the point that she can barely talk because of the mess that is her throat, anorexia so bad she can't stand up, laxatives, obsessive exercise- to the point where shes been pounds away from being institutionalised. and i tell you, as a friend it's hell. there's nothing as bad as sitting in her room chatting when you can hear her being sick in the bathroom next door. i've broken down a few times because it's got so bad. she can't remember dates, but she can remember the calorie content of pretty much anything you throw at her.

I agree with you cat, bleh. I feel so bad for you, as I said above my friend may be anorexic. It is so sad to look at her and feel jealousy when I know that I am way healthier than her.

cat, that must be so hard watching your friend practically commit suicide and knowing there's nothing you can do about it
i dont eat anything in public either, but thats because i dont want to be "the fat kid stuffing her face all the time". and i'm really ashamed of my braces so open my mouth as little as possible
