Do they work? Most people think the transition to movies ruins a good story. On the big screen you dont get the subtleties, miss out bits of the storyline and can't adapt it to fit your own imagination. but on the other hand... reading takes so much longer! I'm not really a big fan of reading (since English drilled it out of me) so i generally quite like the movie versions how about you?

I like it when books are turned to movies. Sure, it isn't always what you personally imagined, but it's great to see your favorite books on the big screen.
Plus you don't have to worry about whether or not you can finish the book without being bothered!
There's actually a couple books to movies I'm anxious to see. 2 of which aren't out yet *sigh*

I hate it when the movies greatly distort the characters/plot of a good book, and also hate comparing them though I do it without being able to help it lol. The Harry Potter movies are in my opinion a disgrace. Some of the parts in them I can compare successfully, but the magoraty of the time I'm like "What the heck?". So it is kind of frustrating. I enjoy sitting down and watching a good comedy, but books are the best. (currently reading New Moon)

You should read the books, I've read the whole series twice and whenever I find myself without something to read I pick up the first one and end up reading most of the whole series AGAIN. They really are almost as addicting as the Twilight series.

Hey! Another Twilighter! HP and Twilight are the best series out there!
It's a tossup for me on the Harry Potter movies. I disliked the first 2 because they screwed up a lot of stuff, the third was the best IMO (script-wise) the 4th was the best (graphics-wise) and the 5th SUCKED. they screwed it up soooo badly.
They better not screw up Twilight. I am WELCOMING any changes in it jsut because it's totally boring watching the same exact thing you read, but if they screw up the plot, I'll be really angry.
2 others they really screwed up on were Eragon and The Golden Compass... Those movies were a disgrace to the books... But the movies themselves were pretty good.

i read excessively, so i usually don't like the book-movie transition. there's the odd one that completely thrashes the book, for instance starter for ten. i watched the film and loved it, then read the book and hated the lead character for the whole thing.
i think they did the boy in the striped pyjamas really well. it would have been very easy to mess up, but they didnt. plus the premiere was in my town ^^

they're just 2 aspects of the same reality, you go see a film for the entertainment and to throw popcorn at the people in front of you, its far more sociable than books

They screw up Twilight and boy, Catherine Hardwicke better watch out.

A Walk To Remember is a novel by Nicolas Sparks and it was made into a movie...the movie was awesome! i cried like a baby! i recently got the book to read, but i've heard its also awesome.
too much of the time when a book is made into a movie, it loses the feel of the book...it has the same name, and thats about it. =[

Yeah, I agree with you Gold. Movies give you nothing to visualize, so you can lose your personal grip on the plot quicker in movies than you can in books.
