Okay well i leased a horse once and you have to take complete care of it. It's just like owning the horse really except you pay a monthly fee and someone else owns it.
As for pricing it can really depend. Just like buying a horse. It depends on how well trained it is and what its breeding is like.

in england we have loaning - where you basically take over cost of 'running' the horse - like livery, food, vetting, shoeing, worming etc., but you dont actually buy the horse. its good if you want to see what a horse is like before you commit yourself

For a while we leased an AWESOME chestnut QH gelding named Sonny (whom people like Reef and mate should know about... lol). What we did was I could go up and ride him whenever I wanted, the owner of the barn could use him for lessons, and we split the cost of shots, farrier, vet, feed, etc.

Ok, thanks! Is there any thing I should watch out for, like scams?

umm - well if you want be sure - get a vet to check out the horse ure gunna lease/loan and get both parties involved (you and the actual owner ) to sign some kinda contract that says for how long your gunna lease/loan - then you can renew the contract when the current one expires.

Well, of course this is obivous but you need to know that the horse is real! Don't sign up for a lease over the Internet, pay the money, then go and find out that the horse was a picture found on Google! Spend some time with the horse, help out at the stable to make sure you like the place, and make sure that the horse is a perfect match for you!

ok, here is where my expertise kicks in...
LEASING you are responsible for the complete care of the horse: -board -farrier -vet -extra things but you do not own the horse
SHAREBOARDING is a cheaper option. you usually have to pay half the board, vet and farrier bills. so you split it with the owner, but you get limited time with the horse.
shareboarding is awesome in you're just starting out.
some people will make you sign a contract, so make sure the horse is sound and what you want before signing a contract. =]

I guess I did Shareboarding with Sonny, and it was awesome for my amount of experience/time at the time.
