Bay is my fave, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for them since the horse that was the most beautiful Bay Appy in the world was named after me! I love dark bays the best.

i've never got how you get bay appies. to me, appaloosa is a colour first and a breed second. like getting solid paint horses, it kinda defeats the point lol

appaloosa is NOT a color....there are words for the designs they have: blanket: white w/ dots on butt leopard: white w/ dots everywhere. appaloosa is a breed. lol paint is also a breed. there are words to describe their markings though: overo, tobiano, tovero hehe

lol i know you get blanket leopard frost and snowflake forms of appaloosa, just like you get silver mouse and yellow forms of dun but as long as other breeds come in the appaloosa colour its just confusing to have a breed of the same name! i hadnt heard of the appaloosa breed until talking to americans online and i guess paint is different, because you have piebald and skewbald as colour alternatives...

for the paint, those are the same thing except we call them something different. i have seen many solid paints and appys and it does kind of defeat the point, but they are carriers of that gene to pass onto their babies

if they were homozygous of the gene then they'd have better chance of passing it onto their offspring too lol wow i'm so hopeless with genetics...

]its confuzing, but if a paint has no 'paint' they can still pass it onto theit children..its just all the luck of genetics. lol

but surely a paint who isnt broken-coloured is a "throwback" (for lack of a better word, i dont mean it in a derogatory sense at all) to a previous ancestor who couldnt have been registered as a purebreed. hmmm i dunno, it'd be a fascinating thing to study
