my family have two horses, well had.. i have one 16.3h dark bay ( in my siggy) who is a bit green but a great personality and a bit cheeky ;-) - he has an assymetric hip, which means he has a wonky hip which means he's a bit stiff doing certain thing off the right leg i think, i cant remember which side he is stiff on actually incidentally his grandfather is Welton Ambassador. my other horse my family had was called Topps, but he had to be out down because of a ulcer in his secum which is untreatable :-( - he was the most lovely person in the worl, gentle, calm, looked after you etc. we were gunna buy a 16.1 dapples grey mare called Nellie she failed her vetting so we might not get her :-(

well i think unfortunately he was in lots of pain, but we all thoguth it was colic/gastric ulcers, which he had aswell, but u never realised he had the ulcer in his secum aswell. the gastric stuff was almost completely cleared, but he still had crap poo, really sloppy etc.
he was an ex race horse so he was on that intensive diet and training rubbish which wrecks a horse. he has never thrown a person in his life but then couple of days before the end he threw some1, we now think it was cos of a stab of pain or something.
then ay later or something i cam into the stables found him lying down staring at his stomach he was quivering, his stomach spasming, so we called the vet, they operated same day and put him down cos u cant do antyhing about anything in the secum cos a horse needs all of it.
and with regard to my horses hip, i dont do much training really, just ride him durin ghte weekends (cos i live 100 miles away lol) so he stays quite green compared to what you lot probably do with ure horses, but he has improved, and we have probably impreoved the monetry value of the horse, which is rare in the amateur world or riding. he just has a stiff leg for cantering which needs a bit of extra coaxing, and also when he ios trotting or transitions or flying changes its a bit rough cos he sort of has to roll his hip over to change legs or get his leg into position, but its better than it was. now through use he has built up the musle so he's no longer bucking me off lol.

so sad he was in pain, but you did the best thing by putting him down. he must have had a much better life than many ex-racers
and thats so wierd you live 100 miles from your horse! shows such dedication that you travel to see him so often

i just heard the vetting report. she is lame on one of her hind legs, we all thought it was string halt (only mild) but apperently she is lameish, and she has a heart conditon :-( - so unless we can get the price down by about half we're not gunna get her :-( its a shame, cos she has a really nice personality, but we dont really want buy her then have her drop dead or lame on us.
