it was bound to come up eventually! no aggression please, lets make this a discussion not an argument lol
thought i'd put this in sport rather than riding because it appears to me that fox hunting with dogs is far more about the event that the horses, particularly the ethics behind it. not sure what the american legal situation is, but hunting foxes using dogs has been banned in england for a few years now, just wondering if you think thats a good idea, or whether you like foxhunting

Only drags are allowed in the U.S. I hate all hunting.

I love hunting, foxes, deer and rabbits are destroying the native animals and vegetation here. I love going hunting for a good fox.

Hunting is not bad at all...trust me if you live in texas... There are deer out here that can really flip a car over if your not carefull how you drive at night. Its also good to hunt, for if not the animals will over populate and then there would be no grass. Thats why they only have seasons.

well hunting is easily done with a shotgun, so i think its not so much about the 'hunting' part of it, but to do with tradiotion etc , using foxhounds who spend 10 minutes tearing a fox or whatever to shreads. that i think is a bit daft, so drag hunting would make a good substitute, as that provides the uncontrolled thrilling feelinjg of chargeing headlong over hedges in a rabble of horses and riders etc lol. with regard to the animals being pesks the farmer can just get a shotgun or whatever and shoot them, much more humane than 10 minuites of being disembowled by a group of foxhounds. incidentally, u can still hunt live prey in england providing u use on 2 hounds or a raptor (bird of prey) - dont ask why, but one should never question the rules for fear of getting a daft and ridiculous answer like the one this will surely provide

Well, I'm not sure what I think on hunting. I feel bad for the animals that have died, but all the same meat tastes soooo good!

chickadee, surely the risk of hitting animals is exactly the reason you should be careful how you drive at night! lol
and i agree with you lawrence, theres a big different between killing an animal because it "has to be done" (although on many occasions it can be avoided) and making a sport out of hunting. if it was truly the best thing for the animals you'd have some respect and not treat their death as a fun day out
norsu, fox hunting isnt done for the meat. as far as i know, no hunting with dogs is done for meat

ok see this..you are just driving down a road at night and all of a suddon a deer jumps out? You can't got to the other lane and you can't stop very fast becuase there is someone right behind you. So its hard no hitting a deer at night, trust me you might be a great driver and all, but when a deer jumps out and you hit it and if they are pretty big they can tear up you car or truck pretty bad.

its shame if its unavoidable but i think a dead/dieing deer is a slightly bigger deal than a damaged car

but sometimes the deer get away before you can hit them. They also can acutal flip a car over and kill you.

killing you, fair enough - your own health is important. but i dont know how you can worry about your car at a time like that, non-living things can be replaced, they dont feel pain. and what does road kill have to do with hunting? lol unless we're onto hunting with cars instead of dogs now! drive-by hunting

I love going out hunting. I have only gone out only few time this year but they were hell of lot of fun. I went the 1st day of bear and deer. During deer i road my pony it was fun even though i didn't see anything but squirrels. Thought this has nothin to do with the foxhounds.

Lots of dogs can hunt birds. Labradors, Hounds, almost anything you train. Of course I can't see a Pug getting a shot down duck, but...
